Inlaid siiver vase with landscape
Unno Shomin (1844-1915)
An inlaid silver vase decorated in shakudō, shibuichi and gold inlay depicting landscapes with the rising sun amongst pine trees and the crescent moon above a river in mountains, the details skilfully chiselled and the neck with a band carved in shishiai-bori with scrolling leaves and inlaid in gold with stylized flower heads. With tomobako inscribed 銀製花瓶 (a silver vase) and the accompanied paper stating: A silver vase with the design after a painting by Maruyama Ōkyo, entitled Tenpōkyūjo and the carving by Unno Shōmin, an imperial court artist and a professor of the Tokyo School of Art
Signed on the side Teishitsu gigei-in juroku-i Unno Shōmin sen (carved by Unno Shōmin, Imperial Court Artist and the 6th rank)
